The original Bonsai Tree 10281 is two displays in one, the pink frog blossoms and the plain green canopy. A light kit has to flatter both, otherwise one version ends up washed out.
Warm LEDs bring out the pink, and a neutral channel keeps the green from going yellow. Whichever canopy you choose, the tree keeps its color after dark. The wiring runs up the back of the trunk, so the front stays clean.
The LEDs stay cool, so the tree can glow through a whole evening without warming the plastic or fading the colors. Batteries last a while because the draw is low, and the kit fits a finished tree with only light refitting.
For a model this small, the payoff is bigger than it looks. LEGO fans who keep a bonsai on the bedside table tend to leave the light on every night, and AFOLs appreciate not having to solder anything to get there.

The 878-piece LEGO Bonsai Tree 10281, launched in January 2021, is the original Botanical bonsai with its signature pink frogs and green canopy.
The original bonsai mixes cherry-blossom pink with green leaves, and the kit is positioned to highlight both colorways without washing out the trunk.
Two color temperatures are used side by side, warm for the pink blossoms and neutral for the green canopy, so both colorways stay distinct instead of blending under a single hue.
Lighting the Bonsai Tree is less about brightness and more about contrast, letting the lit areas guide the eye across the whole build.
The wiring is tucked into the build's natural gaps, so the finished piece looks identical from the front once lit.
Warm light was the default for the Bonsai Tree because it reads as furniture, while cool light reads as technology.
The Bonsai Tree finally earns the display space it was given, because a lit model never looks like it is just waiting to be put away.
